Biofuel

Biofuel - the future of the power industry

The year 1994 is considered the beginning of biofuel production in Lithuania when after the takeover of the Scandinavian experience the first biofuel fuelled – chipped wood and sawdust – boiler plants were built in Lithuania. They were especially successful in those areas of the country, where the heat was produced using expensive and highly pollutant fuels - heavy oil. The production of biofuels as a new industry established itself in the country in 1999, after launching larger boiler plants fuelled with this type of fuel.

The Bionovus company is engaged in the collection, manufacture and supply of various types of biofuel. These are:

•    wood pellets
•    wood chips
•    straw, rape straw, chaff biofuels
•    energy forest (willow) biofuels

The Bionovus company supplies different types of biofuels to more than 20 boiler plants of the country adapted to use it. Of these, the most powerful in the country and throughout the entire Eastern and Central European region is the combined heat boiler plant owned by Vilniaus energija, located in Vilnius, whose capacity is 60 MW.
